SOMEONE STOLE OUR OBAMA SIGN LAST NIGHT

I heard them pull up around eleven, a door opened, then shut a second later, and then they took off. Ten seconds tops.

The cops, when we called them, seemed quite uninterested although it's against the law to steal signs. Of course they were uninterested when someone stole the mirrors from our car last year too. And uninterested when we told them someone was using our credit card to buy computers and have them delivered a few miles away. They did show some interest when we asked them to install our baby car seat. I guess safety is still important to them.

I know when we take our midday walk, all the signs will be gone. I can't get another one. We already tried.

I wish I could make a semi-professional sign that said "You can steal my sign, but not my vote" although we found out even that wasn't true in 2000. And maybe 2004.

Any signs being stolen in your neighborhood?

The police caught a group in our area stealing Obama signs and they were selling them on Craiglist. They also found out that members of this group were local campaign volunteers for the Democrat party. One confessed that he did it to make it look like the other party was behind the robberies. I wouldn't assume that pro-McCain supports are stealing the signs.

I'm not making any assumptions other than it was probably teenagers since it was Saturday night.

If the sign had been attached to a car seat, the police would care.

Apparently.

But not to the mirror.

Sign? After the 2000 and 2004 elections I'm worried the Republicans are once again going to steal our votes.

Republican teens :-) ???
We've had signs stolen in the past--so far not this year. Although, my staunch card carrying GOP member father-in-law always put up bigger GOP signs (they live next door)

I just checked and so far our Obama signs are still out there -- in our overwhelmingly Republican neighborhood. I am trying to attribute the last minute shenanigans in the news (and in your yard) to a fringe minority on both sides; although I saw the author of "How to Rig an Election" on TV last night. He worked for the RNC in 2004 and spent a stint in federal prison for launching a series of phone calls in NH on election day with the intent to block phone lines of Dems who were reminding people to vote and providing rides to polling places. It's hard to strike a balance between paranoia and legitimate concern these days.

You're right. Have you seen the comment, you know you're a Democrat when you want the votes recounted even after you've won. Sometimes I think nothing can make me rest easy.

How about if the sign had been posted at a doughnut shop?

That's awful! Although I will say, I make faces at all the McC signs in our 'hood. We're in Jefferson County, Colorado, a "swing" county, Obama and McC are tied here, and there are too damn many McC signs.

Theft of signs in the Detroit area has gotten so extraordinarily bad that NPR did a story on it on DAY TO DAY today. McCain and Obama signs.

Amazingly for Ohio, this isn't so much about Obama, so much as some kids tired of their parents playing "Frampton Comes Alive" one-hundred times too many.

I haven't heard of any sign thefts in the SF Bay Area, though I haven't seen half as many Obama stickers, as there were Kerry stickers in '04. The Missus chalks it up to fear of vandalism.

We have more Obama signs than Kerry. I think people are proud to be voting for him.
