BTW, Robert Traver's novel--of the same name of the film--was listed as #11 on the Mystery Writers of America's list of the top 100 mystery novels of all time.

Great book and great movie. My favorite Jimmy Stewart performance.

It really had style.
And the book was a knockout.

Terrific movie - the Duke Ellington score isn't always all that appropriate in terms of drama but it's great music all the same (and of course he appears too).

This movie still packs a punch, I think. Way ahead of its time in terms of frankness and realism.

A favorite of mine as well. The UP location, the black and white photography, the cast, and the jazz score were such an unexpected stretch of expectations if you'd already read the novel.
