We are in the process of moving from a four- story house to a one-story. It seemed like the right time. This is a mid-century modern house and actually needs more work than our current one, but it is half as far from our son and very near Kevin's school. It is one mile from the zoo and just a few miles from five different movie venues. (none near us here)
Plus all of our friends live within five miles of us now.
No more driving across town on icy freeways at night. And Phil will have a bigger garden.
No stairs in sight. And we are going from little light (we face north here and it's a townhouse) to lots of light.
Next week I hope to be in touch with some of you who expressed a willingness to help me with a blog tour for the book. If I can just get to my computer through the boxes.

Congratulations! This is a smart decision. You and Phil will be in a much better location. And interest rates will be going up in June. This was a great time to move!
Haven't quite persuaded Phil that spending $100,000 more for a house is worth it. But values in this community rebounded quickly. Ours did not and were never as high as here.
Congratulations again. Not only is it a smart decision but it looks great all the way around. Of course, now you face the nightmare of packing and moving but once that is over you will be set! I hope there is plenty of room for books.

Patti, tell Phil that your new house will gain value faster. Within a year or two, your new abode will be worth $100,000 more as the Market goes up. And think of all the gas you'll save because you're closer to EVERYTHING!
We are giving about 1000 books away. Mostly Phil's books but lots of mine too. Ruthless. And perhaps twenty bags of clothes and at least 20 pieces of furniture. Completely different kind of house. More windows than walls. We are going to live more minimally. Unless I can see myself reading a book again or reading it at all, it goes to various charities.
As they say, location, location, location.
So bright! Always a requirement for us when we were looking at places several years ago. Just hope all those windows are the double insulted type for the bitter Michigan winters.
Congratulations.
I've been encouraging my mother to get rid of things so they can move. Heck, I've been cleaning out my own closets and basement over the past month.
Best of luck with the move, Patti.
If you need an additional blog tour stop, I'd be glad to host you on So, You Want to Chat?
Correct link for my author chat blog:

(I'm not going to try making it a clickable link again for now.)
Would love that, Gerald.
Paradise Regained!
So glad you went with a one story--and I love that mid-century modern style, so sleek and contemporary...and lots of light is always a joy!
Mid-Century Modern! Fabulous! I hope you are able to preserve the design keys that make these houses so special. Plus no stairs is a very good thing. I thought I'd never have stairs, didn't for 18 years, and here I am in a two story house.
I hope the moving goes smoothly for you and the unpacking, of course is always a treat.
Congratulations!
The first thing Jackie said when I showed her the pictures was to comment on all the windows. She loves the open, uncluttered look.

Although that is the furniture still in there from the current owners. We will I am sure make it more cluttered than it is now.
Thanks, Rick We are hoping to keep it looking like MAD MEN.
Patti, many congratulations to you and Phil. I wish you both health and happiness in your new home. Your house looks great!
Just saw this great (if rather long) and relevant article: http://m.curbed.com/archives/2015/04/08/why-everyone-is-obsessed-with-midcentury-modern-design.php
Ah. Some obsessive collectors have been knonw to buy their neighbors' houses to shelter their libaries...
Good luck in settling in and improving the big bungalow!
Wishing you all the best with your move, Patti! It looks like a great house.
It sounds lovely and I love all the light.
Hope the move goes smoothly for you, Patti.
Congratulations on the move and welcome to your new home!
