Help A Fellow Book Lover and a Nice Person Too

http://www.indiegogo.com/feeding-kate

This is a website that is raising money for jaw surgery for Sabrina Ogden, a terrifically nice person whose health care policy will not pay for the procedure. This is not elective surgery to anyone other than cost-cutting health care systems. This is necessary, indeed critical. Sabrina is a great friend to the crime fiction community. You are not helping a stranger but someone who shares your interests.

In return for your $5.00 you will get a volume of short stories by many of Sabrina's friends--all writers. Plus you will have the pleasure of helping a dear young woman out.

HERE'S HER OWN STORY. THEN TELL ME WHY WE DON'T NEED OBAMACARE

I bought the ebook, but something has crossed. I don't see any way to get it. That's okay. The five can just be a contribution

Randy, I think it is not out yet. The same thing happened to me. And how very nice you are. I will email someone and ask.

Sabrina is one of the nicest, kindest people you can meet. And what a collection of top talent.

We need a hell of a lot better than RomneyCare/ObamaCare. But you know this. I opted for the hardcopy, and much better luck to her (Bill Crider has another similar appeal up in the last 24...these insurance-company windfalls, much worse than a tax increase, are simply Not going to do the trick).

The late, great Molly Ivins said it best, you cannot make people's health a for-profit business. But we have--and see where it's got us. I've been waiting for 14 years for an insurance company to tell me that the repair of the stomach-muscle herniation I experienced as a result of a full-time twin pregnancy in 1998 is "not cosmetic." As of today, no such luck. I wish Sabrina all the best because her situation is far more dire than mine will ever be. What's next--"oh, you don't need that triple by-pass, it's just a cosmetic thing to keep your heart pumping"?

(BTW, I understand Kathleen Turner is about to play Ivins in a one-woman show--should be fun!)

"full-term twin pregnancy"...although being a mother is certainly a full-time job!

My healthcare would not pay for any of the dental surgery I had although the oral surgeon says that other systems will pick up some of it since it was a sinus lift. Argh.

Thank you so much for sharing, Patti, and for the very kind words. And to all of you, thank you so much for the support. I plan to fight the denial... which should be quite fun. =)

Sadly, Sabrina's case is all too common today. I just got a bill for $3138 for the anesthesia for my knee surgery. Blue Cross and Blue Shield will cover it, but they have to send me the check and then I have to forward the signed check to the anesthesiologist. What a goofy payment system!
