All I Want for Christmas.

The buy-American theme fits in perfectly with buying books, doesn't it? Even many foreign books have a US. publisher or distributor.

So what three books would you like to receive?

I am hoping for the Diane Keaton autobiography, the Pauline Kael biography and 11/22/63.

Patti - Hmmm...To be perfectly honest, I think there are too many books I want to narrow it down to just three. But I can see why you've chosen the ones you have.

I;m with Margo. When it comes to books, I'm like a kid in a candy store. I want them all and can't decide where to go first. Or when to stop.

WASHINGTON by Ron Chernow
THINKING, FAST & SLOW By Daniel Kahneman
A WORLD ON FIRE: BRITAN'S CRUCIAL ROLE IN THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR By Amanda Foreman

Good choices, Patti. I'm 2/3 of the way through the King and I'm pretty sure you'll like most of it.

I can't possibly come up with a list of three of my own, unfortunately. Actually, between the library and PaperbackSwap.com (and buying a few) I've got a lot of what I wanted.

How about this:

the complete Library of America

anything by David Goodis or Harry Whittington

George's list sounds like Phil. But since he works with those books all the time, he usually opts for something lighter for Xmas.
I have one Goodis book and none by Whittington. Went to a used bookstore yesterday but all the good stuff goes out via mail and not the door.
I like some of King and this sounds like one of them.

You like time travel books (like I do) and that's what this one is all about.

I've got the King book on my list as well.

The good thing about writing for kids and having kids is that I can give them the books I want to read myself :-) Wimpy kid is on the list, and I'll be heading out for some more book shopping to see what looks good.

Yes, I do. And that period is especially interesting to our generation.
How old before Wimpy Kid?

I'm half way through the King book now and won't be able to eat a proper meal or do anything else until I'm finished.

As for Christmas, the new collection of Fredric Brown's miscellania sure sound good, as do a number of reference CD's from Locus Press. And almost anything from the many brilliant small publishers out there, such as Battered Silicon Dispatch Box, Hafner Press, Black Dog Books, Tartarus Press, Ash-Tree Press, NESFA Press, beb Books, and so many more.

Also, my resistance is weakening, so maybe an e-reader...next Christmas.

The problem is, besides all the books sitting on my shelves I have 13 library books at hand, which have to be read first, including the King and Michael Connelly, Megan Abbott, Margaret Maron, Archer Mayor, & John Connolly.

That sounds very familiar.

Jerry-the price for a basic kindle is worth it. Just for traveling alone.

I'm not sure what I want, but my sister got me THE CRUST ON ITS UPPERS by Derek Raymond for my birthday.

I still have Dora Suarez on the TBR. Maybe in the next life I will get to some of these. HAPPY BIRTHDAY. 25, right?

Lucky Bruce - Bruce Jay Friedman

Sometimes They Even Shook Your Hand - John Schulian

A Moment in the Sun - John Sayles. This one because I know I will never buy or read a 1,000 page novel. If it's a gift, I won't feel guilty having sitting there unread.

I would have included W.P. Kinsella's first novel in 13 years, Butterfly Winter, but I got a review copy last week.

I'd forgotten all about Kinsella. Hope it's good.

Books that will make me laugh. For instance, "Naked" by David Sedaris; "The Lost Continent: Travels in Small-Town America" or "Neither Here nor There: Travels in Europe, or both, by Bill Bryson; and "Is It Just Me? Or is it Nuts Out There?" by Whoopi Goldberg

I needed a new address book and found a nice leather bound one at B & N -- made in Maine, USA -- hooray!
