I haven't seen a lot of those movies, but I love Little Lulu.

It seems unlikely, but in the rush of the events over the last year, the only films I recall seeing in a theater in 2008 were the not-bad WALL-E, the not-bad TELL NO ONE which I traded with Alice for seeing the absolutely dismal THE HOUSE BUNNY, and the not-bad GET SMART. So three favored theatrical films by default.

Oh. Yes. There was the even more dismal WANTED, compared to which THE HOUSE BUNNY was only mildly painful.

So, I went back and scanned a list of releases, and my list of Not-Bads is now ranked:

1. TELL NO ONE
2. GET SMART
3. HELLBOY 2
4. WALL-E
5. KUNG FU PANDA

And the two avoidables remain the same. Sad year for my filmgoing.

I have a friend who has every Little Lulu ever printed. And a guy friend.
I am addicted to movie popcorn so I see a lot of movies.

When it's fresh, and ifyou don't mind soy "butter," it's hard to beat. Just don't eat it with one's gloves on.

LITTLE LULU was, I gather, not too different in appeal from POGO, pitched a bit younger perhaps.

And I see I forgot the Not Bad IRONMAN, which would land in #3 (and I have to try to convince Alice to go to some non-bubblegum films).

The only one I've seen is In bruges, which was very good.

In Bruges would be right at the top. Try The Bank Job and Transibberian when they come out on DVD.

I really liked MILK. A much darker movie, THE READER, will haunt you for weeks.

Haven't gotten to The Reader yet but am anxious to see it when it comes closer to my house.

I only went to the movies for two films in '08: The Dark Knight and Ghost Town starring Ricky Gervais. I liked them both but I'm tiring a little of the caped crusader.

pattinase (abbott) said...

I saw both of them too. I think I saw pretty much every movie last year. If they'd stop selling popcorn I'd save money and calories. I love Ricky Gervais though.

The only movie I saw this year was Ghost Town with Ricky Gervais. It was budget year.

1. The Dark Knight (David! Tiring?)
2. Wall-E
3. Iron Man
4. Benjamin Button
5. Tropic Thunder

And, on DVD, without equal, Foyle's War (Seasons 1-3, so far)

I tend to only watch action or comic book movies in the theater and catch the more dignified movies on DVD. So my list would be:

1, 2, 3. The Dark Knight (if you have an IMAX near you I highly recommend seeing it when it's re-released on January 23rd).
4. Iron Man
5. Cloverfield
6. Tropic Thunder
7. Hell Boy II

Yes, I am a 16 year old at heart.

Transsiberian is on DVD, and it's very good.

I think Transsiberian was one of the most surprising movies of the year. They mishandled it because I think it could have had a wide release.

I have not seen Transsiberian, but I'd like to. There are quite a few new movies I haven't seen yet. I did watch quite a few too and I'd say the top 3 (in no particular order) were:

1. Atonement
2. No Country for Old Men
3. In Bruges

After I looked at the list of all the movies released in 2008, I realized most of them were either pretty good, but not good enough for me to list, pretty mediocre, or so unappealing that I didn't want to see them. I do watch a LOT of movies though. I"m hoping Doubt is good -- I just love Phillip Seymour Hoffman and I love Meryl Streep.

Atonement was an even better book. No Country was brilliant but a bit too dark. Does it make any sense to say-she overpowered him. Great acting though.
I love them both too but I don't think they worked well together. Something was thrown off. I liked it better as a play.
