At The Moment

At the moment
when it seemed like
things couldn't grow worse
When lying became commonplace
and name-calling was passed down
like Grandmother's china
At the moment
when the cancer returned
well before the medications
stacked like spices on a shelf expired
At that moment
he called to say the tests
proved I was his half-sibling
That the big family in Pennsylvania
was not mine at all
 that I'd been stealing stories
from strangers

Wow. Very powerful. I especially like
"the medications stacked like spices on a shelf "

That line hit me hard as well. At one point, Sandi had 30 different drugs she was taking post stem cell transplant. The last few weeks as we journeyed into hospice that drug list shrank massively to just handful. Then there was three....two...and finally one at the end.

We must have a dozen meds for nausea alone. None work.
