Monkey Justice on Dark Valentine

I am interrupting the usual Friday progression here because Dark Valentine has announced this is their last issue and will only be available today. It will go into an archive at some other spot.

I worked especially hard on this story: Monkey Justice and did a lot of research for it. So I am bummed that this happened although I certainly blame no one. This is a rough business for all concerned and DV did a spectacular job in presenting work in a wonderful format.

So here is Monkey Justice along with a lot of other great stories. I will put up the link for the archived version but it just ain't the same.

Sad to see them going. Had hoped to one day publish something with them. Or even gotten a rejection, actually. Anything I'd submitted just disappeared into the ether without so much as a "thanks, but no thanks." I've read some good stuff over the past year, and their finished product was always top notch.

Downloaded this issue, and eagerly looking forward to reading your story, Patti.

Thanks, Chris. You may be the only one!

They paid writers, had wonderful illustrations, and offered a wide variety of genres. I was quite thrilled when Cash Laramie was presented there in the Winter issue. Bottom line is they made authors look good and will be missed.

I sometimes wish sites like this would offer a chance for a new team to take over and keep it going. Like with Crimefactory.

Patti - A great story, and it is sad to see this be the last issue...

Thanks, Margot. It is sad because they did such a lovely job with it. Plus she was open to all kinds of stories.

Interesting story, Patti, I was expecting a slightly different ending, so you got me. I've DL'd the issue so I can read the rest later.

The more I read about experiments with these monkeys, the more it reminded me of human behavior. Thanks, Rick. I will miss the illustrations.

A deep story. Certain environments or situations bring out our primitive roots. As a former minister, I can tell you that some churches are like that.

I know so many women who cannot get past their first husbands. They let the memories, good and bad, haunt their lives even 20-30 years later. Thanks, Joe. I am very happy to have it read.

I also intended at some point to send a story their way. They did great stuff and I'm sorry to see them go.

I'm bringing a printed copy to St Louis with me. Will you sign it? I'm a fan for life. This is the kind of thing that I think fiction is meant for.

John-thank you so much! There is supposed to eventually be a printed version. If it turns out there is, I will buy you a copy. Otherwise I will sign that one. So nice of you to say that.

Just read it, Patti. Very well done. It was hard to read, seeing how Cheryl was depriving herself of life with her lingering hang up. You captured that very well.

And here's a picture of a capuchin monkey I took in Panama....
