Things That Are Not Making Me Happy

Okay, what is making me happy is all the good friends who rally around us. Hard to overstate how much that helps. What also makes me happy is having a good book to read waiting by my bed at night. My family makes me happy. We celebrated my son's birthday yesterday.  I have two kids I am proud of. And a grandson too.

What are some good things in your neck of the woods.

I'm going to see A QUIET PLACE today. Love Emily Blunt!

Although we woke up to a snow-covered lawn yesterday, today we're supposed to start warming up into the 40s.

I'm making nachos tonight! Yum!

Being home, getting back into our routine, having our restaurants and libraries and, most of all, Fios TV service - Netflix, Amazon and Acorn, On Demand.

I have five library books on hand.

Spring is bound to get here eventually, right?

Give Phil our best.

We think of you both, and worry when things don't seem to be well for you. Rest assured you're frequently in our thoughts.

Nice weather here, have been enjoying doing jigsaw puzzles with Barbara, I'm reading KA by John Crowley, which, 50 pages in, is quite good.

The garden is perking up, though we had high winds and hard rain for a couple of days last week, and had to shelter some things. It all came through fine. The fiddleheads on our ferns are all up, and they are fascinating shapes and texture, and so pretty.

I have so many books going, and more I'm eager to get to, it's almost overwhelming. I'm about 7 stories into your collection and enjoying it.

Thanks, guys.
Still winter here but Thursday is predicted to reach 70.

Weather improving by mid week. Lots of good books to read. Just finished Greeks Bearing Gifts by Philip Kerr who just passed last week. Am now reading and enjoying Pride and Prometheus by John Kessel.
The Detroit Tigers sweeping Chicago over the weekend.
Am also going to see A Quiet Place this week. Than probably Isle of Dogs.

I've been requesting in a lot of music albums from other libraries. Albums I never heard of or got to before. I just had two Kinks CDs come in today.

Our new Children's Librarian started today. I've been trying not to overwhelm her and she is now working with someone else rather than listen to me all day.

My wife and I attended our 6th grader's parent-teacher conferences last week and we are always glad to hear he is doing well and to see how dedicated and skilled our local teachers are. Our 9th grader's conferences will be tomorrow - the same day as his first, uncanceled track meet of the season. I'm not sure if or how we can do both.

Anxieties are a bitch and hard to ignore. Hoping brighter days come your way soon.

A family Easter outing was a lot of fun. No one saw an alligator though, despite the warning signs.

Jessamyn and Ceili stopped in yesterday with a Dutch apple pie and ice cream. I like surprises like that.

Some interesting TV recently, but nothing can top the recent SUPERNATURAL/SCOOBIE DOO mashup.

Joe Lansdale's JACKRABBIT SMILE, the latest Hap and Leonard novel was glorious.

We've been watching a lot of documentaries and clips about the Mengele Effect. Kitty gets upset when she talks about it and I say, "Don't you mean the Hemingway Effect?" I can be evil that way.

Better things are coming your way.

Very much enjoyed the crime fiction read, AUGUST SNOW. Found out about it thanks to the website, UNLAWFUL ACTS, run by David Nemeth. Have to write a review for it.

Thrilled that we have missed the severe weather, including the baseball sized hail, that has been stalking victims all around my little part of North Texas.
