I've been reading the story of Andy DeJarlis, a well-respected Canadian Metis old-time fiddler. That and your post got me thinking about a school friend who played the fiddle and led a group of high school students who played polkas, old-time waltzs. fox-trots, jigs, two-steps, butterflys and schottisches at our local Ukrainian Hall. The crowd was primarily made up of parents, their co-workers and friends. The teenagers didn't attend those dances so I never learned those dances that always looked to be so much fun.
