The Detroit Science Center, which went belly-up a year or so ago, has now been replaced with the hopefully more financially solvent, Michigan Science Center. Same location but perhaps better exhibits and more money backing it. The DSC was woefully dark and dreary and too much like your mother's science center.
Its success remains to be seen since the funding is less than what the DSC enjoyed and the staff is less than half of the former's. Wait and see, I guess. But I admire the people who keep trying.

I'm glad to hear of an improvement in science education that way. Bodes well.
It is hard to make science accessible and still meaningful, isn't it? But better than my day.
A nice kid's museum must cost a ton of dough to run. Keeping it staffed with trained people, creating or buying interactive exhibits, cleaning and repairing those exhibits, heating and cooling the large space that is needed, and fundraising to keep ticket prices manageable for families.
We've been to kid museums in Madison, WI, Milwaukee, WI, Wichita, KS, and Champaign, IL. The best one was Wichita.
