An Idiot Abroad

(Someone's bucket list)

An Idiot Abroad is a British show, which I noticed on Fleur's blog, is an amusing and interesting show on the Science channel. The idea is that a list of 100 things that would appear on many bucket lists takes our guide to various places and challenges. It's basically a travel show played for laughs.

Do you have a bucket list--things you want to do before you die? I hope some of you are more daring than I am.

I have almost no sense of adventure in me. Or at least adventure that demands physical or dare- devil acts. I am working on a list but so far I am stuck. How about you? I could say I would like to learn to play the piano but I know that isn't going to happen. I would think there has to be some sense I might do it to put it on the list. Some chance I would at least try to make it happen.

Okay, I thought of one. Drive the car. You can see where I am coming from.

Don't really have one as such, but there are - occasionally - a few items that would go on one.

1. visit Australia & New Zealand
2. get the nerve to skydive

I would have to have at least six weeks in Australia to make it worth the flight. And you can imagine my feelings about sky diving.

I'm like you, Patti. Not really looking for physical daredevilry in my life. But if I were, I'd like to hike at least a part of the Appalachian Trail.

No bucket list for me. I do as much that I want to do now as I can. I don't imagine I'll have more time later for things.

That's good Naomi. I can imagine doing that. Maybe we can do it together.
Living in the moment, Charles.

I would like to drive from Washington DC to the Pacific ocean, using the roads that most closely follow the route of Lewis and Clark. I've made some trips as far as Colorado to see my brother's family, but this would be The Big One.

I'm with Charles: I just want to enjoy what I'm doing. And read more books!

Dana, I just returned from cross-country skiing at Lolo Pass, which is part of the route Lewis & Clark took headed west.

I have tons of things I want to do, but no real list, per se. But if I could only do one epic-style adventure, I think it would involve Alaska, some gear, and pontoon plane drop-off and pick-up points.

I have an 'Anti Bucket List.' A list of things that I never want to have to do while I'm alive. Lots of those things are actually on other people's bucket list!

Likewise, Paul. I certainly can't do anything that involves height, speed, eating worms, entering strange contests (or any contest), singing in front of a group. You get the idea.

I don't have a bucket list: I don't like to fly, so traveling to exotic destinations is out; just the threat of having to sky-dive would be enough to make me give up any national secrets I have (which, thankfully, I don't); and the acquisition of rare and precious items requires the wealth of a lottery winner (which I'm not). So I guess I'll continue enjoying my quiet home life, being happy that my husband and I have raised thoughtful, caring young adults, and working in our small way to make the world a better place.

P.S. Is there anywhere we can complain about Blogger's new word verf process? Even with my glasses on, it's so hard to read the words, I have to try three or more times to post!

Was wondering if it was just me. And strange long words. And sometimes no word to verify.

Bucket lists are for people who haven't figured out that every day is an adventure. Especially when you're 70 and counting.

Patti - Bucket lists are always so interesting, aren't they? One thing on mine? I'd like to visit India.

Nope. I've done it all and seen it all. I'd like to be rich, though.

I wouldn't turn money down.

In theory, I like travelling, but in reality it demands quite a lot of me healthwise...

And the real me has always been very cautious so I know that that is one of the things I love about writing crime fiction: I can even kill - and get away with it ;)
