For the record, these are what I consider my best -- or at least my favorite --novels, in no particular order:
THE CRIMES OF JORDAN WISE
BLUE LONESOME
THE RUNNING OF BEASTS
SHACKLES
MOURNERS
FEVER
Hey cool!
Patti, I'm looking forward to reading Bill Pronzini's books, especially his Nameless Detective series.
And THE RUNNING OF BEASTS is a collaboration with Barry Malzberg. I don't think that one will disappoint you, Prashant.
(Glad to see my memory isn't totally shot, in re: BP's assessment of THE CRIMES OF JORDAN WISE.)
Todd, I haven't read anything by Pronzini yet so any book by him is welcome including THE RUNNING OF BEASTS. Some authors you just never see in new bookstores here though you can place an order for a specific title(s) and return after some days to claim it.
Mr. Pronzini is what every mystery and crime writer should aspire to...a consummate professional.
Nice. Good to see an author who can assess his own (massive) output so clearly. Those are all very good choices and would certainly be on my list.
Jeff M.
Just finished the amazing SHACKLES.
Patti - I love it that Pronzini took the time to write that. I'll have to take his 'favourites' list and do some (re)reading.
A great list of great books! The long term strategy would be to have the entire Bill Pronzini oeuvre available as ebooks. The money will flow in as the global market brings in new readers.
George and his ebooks. I'd rather all the books were IN PRINT the good old fashioned way. Great list, I've read all but one (Beasts).
Please forgive that mini e-book rant. Maybe I'm the last holdout.
Barbara finished SHACKLES and is set to start SNATCH as soon as she finishes Crais' DEMOLITION ANGEL.
Very nice of him.
