I know her novel (LONG ISLAND COMPROMISE) will be great, but it would be hard to top this story and what it tells us about the attempt to overcome trauma of any kind. Hold onto your seat....

Interesting that the essay is a companion to a novel.
I might have one coming in...it's been a rotten morning already, with cats not feeling well and a warped front door, courtesy all the damned 90+ degree days in a row (and the previously non-problematic fact of it being a wooden door facing the elements...once it was trimmed down from swelling).
We're back for a while. Went out this morning, went to Rhode Island, had lunch in a great place in Narragansett with HUGE lobster rolls.
But, anyway... I did read Roddy Doyle's first book of stories, THE DEPORTEES, and, generally speaking, I'd definitely recommend it. About to finish the second Philip K. Dick collection, WE CAN REMEMBER IT FOR YOU WHOLESALE.
I saw that kidnap story last week.
That is a terrifying story, I have just read the first few paragraphs and I will come back to finish it later.
