Jack Lemmon

Always one of my favorite actors, Lemmon sure made a lot of great films. Most were comic but he could turn out a dramatic performance like his role as the father in MISSING, or his part in THE CHINA SYNDROME too. My favorite is SOME LIKE IT HOT where he was certainly the more convincing woman as well as the deliverer of one of the greatest last lines of all time.

What is your favorite Lemmon role?

I'd have to go with Some Like It Hot, too, but I have a lot of affection for his work in The Great Race. And many others.

Three favorites: Mister Roberts. Save the Tiger, and Glengarry Glen Ross.

Love Some Like it Hot. Also The Fortune Cookie and Bell, Book and Candle. He always worked well with Walter Matthau.

Oh, so many. I think he's my favorite actor of all time. I loved him in Glengarry Glen Ross. Also The Apartment. Pretty much anything. Even Grumpy Old Men.

I disagree about his convincing woman in SOME LIKE IT HOT. I don't think he made any conscious choice to be a woman at all. Daphne was a grotesque caricature just like Tony Curtis' Josephine. While Lemmon wisely completely ignored the advice of the female impersonator consultant they hired Curtis paid too much attention and came out like a drag queen.

Well, everyone mentioned my real favorites already. But I'll add two more that were overlooked -- TRIBUTE for dramatic panache and THE OUT OF TOWNERS for comic skills.

BTW - It's Joe E Brown as Osgood who says the famous last line in SOME LIKE IT HOT.

Also teamed up well with Judy Holiday in Pfft. Also MISSING, such a sad movie.
I don' think they wanted either of them to play convincing women or even convincing men in drag. The world wasn't ready for that.
And yes, Joe E. Brown got the line.

'The Apartment,' 'Glengarry, Glen Ross' . . . hell, he was always great. Got to see him in 'Long Day's Journey Into Night' with Kevin Spacey at Duke in the 80s -- terrific. 'Missing.'
