Friday's Forgotten Books, July 8. 2011

Just links this week. Ed is on an hiatus and I couldn't get a review done in time. First time in three and a half years without a lead.

Patti, re your comment on the first review: you should try one of Camilleri's Insp. Montalbano books. I've bought and read each of them as they've been translated and enjoy them all. Montalbano is a wonderfully snarky character, the food he eats sounds great, the Sicilian setting is vivid and Camilleri gets in some great shots at Berlusconi and his government.

Also, they are short, fast reads.

Hey, Jeff. How about if you do one next week or the one after?

Patti - No lead-in required. Thanks for this list (and thanks for including one of my posts *blush*).

I have returned to the fold with a FFB now that I am (briefly) back in the USSA.

Patti -

Because Martin Edwards had already done Praying Mantises back in 2009 I didn't want to use it as my FFB. The real FFB for this week is here:

And another plug for the Montalbano films, in the Mystery Wheel on MHz WorldView on Sundays and Tuesdays, on the second digital channel of a public broadcasting station not too far from a whole lot of you Yanks. (In Philly, on the third digital channel of WYBE...in LA, on KCET...in San Francisco, on KCSM...in DC, on anchor station WNVC...).

And in New York...nowhere.

I guess Time Warner needed all the room for more "reality" programming.

NYC is conspicuously absent here...WNET and WLIW and the NJTV network WNET has just taken over (and even WNYE) seem unwilling to pick up the broadcast affiliation, so far. So far, Plattsburgh's Mountain Lake PBS is the only NY State affiliate.

But, then again, Flint, Grand Rapids and Lansing all have affiliates, but not Detroit...

(Chicago, Vegas, St. Paul, Seattle, Nashville, N'Orleans, Denver, Salt Lake, yes...)

Jerry House has one up, now, too...a J. Sheridan Le Fanu novella... http://jerryshouseofeverything.blogspot.com/2011/07/forgotten-book-room-at-dragon-volant.html

And the links with authors/titles/reviewers are up on my blog now, and passed around a bit...I've sent the code along to you, Patti, as well.

Why do you post this stuff on the Trufen group on Yahoogroups?
