What is Wonderful About the World?

Emily St. John Mandel said (on @Bksandauthors) when she was thinking about her novel, STATION ELEVEN, (a post-apocalyptic story) her husband asked her, "what is wonderful about the world?'
She came up with the work of William Shakespeare and uses that as a major plot point in her novel.

What is wonderful about the world?

Such a heady question! Too much to list in a blog comment that's for sure. Whenever I think of what's wonderful I think of the great outdoors. No matter where we go in our travels Joe and I find that the world is truly awesome and powerful and beautiful in every aspect of the natural world. The human world, for us, leaves a lot to be desired. ;^) But I am trying to be hopeful and more positive in 2015.

Thanks, George. And right back at you along with all my omline friends. You have enlarged my world by so much.
I would add the art of any number of painters. Saw MR. TURNER recently and was blown away by his more impressionistic pieces.

I start with Nature in all it's expressions: plants, birds and animals, landscapes, oceans, streams, lakes, every thing nature shows. The sky, the clouds.

Then the artistic creativity of humans, though writing, drawing, painting, designing, building, photographing, crafts, making ceramics, quilts, clothes, anything creative.

Books, the people who write them and the ones who read them and the ones who share about them in any media.

When I ponder such questions, which is not often, I take comfort in Hopkins' poem, "God's Grandeur." He gives me an answer. Here is a link:

Good question--especially as apocalyptic/sad books and movies are so big now...

I love nature, like John and Richard Animals. Unexpected kindness by people at moments you need it most.

Humor. I love a good laugh. I think it's why I ended up writing for kids.

Family, friends, dogs, a pretty day, a really good book. Beyond that I got nothin'.

Laughing, yes. A great answer.
That's a pretty full life, James.

Humor. The sense of humor is what puts us apart from animals. People without a sense of humor are just...weird.
Music, or at least the potential of music (it can of course also be very annoying).
Cats!

Sadly I am allergic to cats. We might have had a beautiful thing but I will never know.

What's wonderful about the world? The fact that there is one, and that it happens ro be this one.
