I have never watched this even tho I am a James Cain fan. Just find Joan Crawford so unattractive and a bad actress to boot.

Watch the HBO series with Kate Winslet. I am no Crawford fan either.

I'll have to check out that Kate Winslet series, as I'm not much of a one for Crawford, either.

This was Joan's Oscar-winning role. If you think she wasn't good in it you have obviously never seen her in TROG.

I have seen her in Trog. Not exactly a highlight of her career.

Now I am yearning for TROG.

I believe I've seen her in something. Not this, though. Oh, this is Joan Crawford. I don't think I ever watched one of her movies all the way through.

The HBO miniseries was eye opening. Never read the book but now I feel I have after seeing that version. So different from the original which played up the melodrama.

Joan Crawford in TROG. HA! I thought her work in BERSERK and I SAW WHAT YOU DID was pretty awful until I saw TROG. The movie itself is just ridiculous and Crawford takes it all so seriously without a trace of irony.

Quotes from TROG:

Dr. Brockton: Malcolm, get me my hypo-gun - quickly!

Dr. Brockton: Please, Trog, let me have the girl!

Dr. Brockton: Trog!

Needless to say (I hope), Joan played Dr. Brockton.

TROG was Joan's last movie--surprise!

Cain's MILDRED PIERCE is totally different from the Joan Crawford movie (I've never seen Kate Winslet's version, so can't say if it was truer to the book). Cain's book is really the story of obsessive (in a way I found extremely icky) love of a mother for her ungrateful, scheming, adulterous daughter. There's no murder in the book, but the movie got the dayghter's cold and conniving nature down pat.
