Some of My Favorite Books of 2014

I lost my list transitioning computers. So this is mostly based on memory and in no particular order.
I am sure I forgot a few that should be on here. Four of these were read after seeing a movie and two in anticipation of movies so I see how influential movies are on my reading

IN THE MORNING I'LL BE GONE, Adrian McKinty
 THE DINNER, Herman Koch
 THE GIVER, Lois Lowry
 THE FEVER, Megan Abbott
 THE HUSBAND'S SECRET, Liane Moriarity
THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES, Eduardo Sacheri
 STUMPED, Rob Kitchin
 UNDER THE SKIN, Michael Faber
 THE HOT SPOT, Charles Williams
 BROKEN HARBOR, Tana French
 THE MOTEL LIFE, Willie Vautin
 ELIZABETH IS MISSING, Emma Healey
 ORDINARY GRACE, William Kent Kruger
A MEMBER OF THE WEDDING, Carson McCullers
.REFLECTIONS IN A GOLDEN EYE, Carson McCullers
THE FAULT IN THE STARS, John Green

If you liked the two McCullers books, perhaps you will also like her Ballad of the Sad Café. To my mind, McCullers -- except for Heart is the Lonely Hunter -- has been neglected in recent decades.

I liked IN THE MORNING I'LL BE GONE by Adrian McKinty. And, of course, Megan's THE FEVER. Tana French's new book is on my Read Real Soon stack.

I've read all of McCullers, R.T. One of my favorites. I started the new French after liking the last three, but I couldn't get into it. Perhaps after some time has passed.

I had the privilege of working with Carlos Dews, a prominent McCullers scholar; we even began working together on a book about the McCullers household (McCullers, Auden, George Davis, Richard Wright, and a bizarre assortment of others) at 7 Middagh Street in Brooklyn in the 40s, but we moved too slowly, and another author came out with a book on the subject entitled February House (which is a great book). Carlos is now teaching in Italy and writing crime fiction with S. J. Rozan; I, on the other hand, remain forever ensconced in the Redneck Riviera.

I think I have February House somewhere.

I'm afraid I haven't read any of these.

The only ones I've read on that list are the Megan Abbott and John Green books, though I've read the first in the McKinty series, THE COLD COLD GROUND.

I started making a list in order of reading (but as I missed out the Abbott and McKinty books it was clearly not complete). Here is what I have so far:

Jo Walton, Farthing/Ha'penny/Half a Crown trilogy (alternate universe mystery series)
Martin Limon, Nightmare Range (mystery shorts, set among US Army in Korea)
Lauren Beukes, The Shining Girls (time traveling serial killer)
Gabrielle Zevin, The Storied Life of A. J. Fikry
John Scalzi, Lock In (SF)
Karen Joy Fowler, We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves
Molly Antopol, The Unamericans (ss)
Julie Schumacher, Dear Committee Members
Michael Connelly, The Burning Room (Harry Bosch)
Stephen King, Revival
Ron Rash, Something Rich & Strange: Selected Stories
Phil Klay, Redeployment (ss)

Great list, Jeff. Been meaning to read Scalzi and DEPLOYMENT, which everyone seems to love.,
