Has this theme been used for something else my 20yo students would be familiar with? They seem to know it but are too young to have seen or cared about seeing the movie.
A favorite theme of mine since 1962 has been the one from TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.

I liked that movie pretty well. The soundtrack is way tooooooooooooooo slow for me. :)

A great soundtrack for a bad film: WALK ON THE WILD SIDE by Elmer Bernstein. Fabulous opening credits too. Stinko film.
Worth looking for on youtube.
Also, of course, love the soundtrack from THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, also Elmer Bernstein.
And the incredible soundtrack from SILVERADO. Can't remember the composer.
Will look for them.
