Janet D. Nase
My Mom died today. She and her best two friends from high school died within three months of each other.
There never was a lovelier woman than my mother. Never said a bad word about anyone. Could dance like a dream. Never criticized my child rearing. Always looked ready to go out to dinner but without any fuss. Rarely complained about her constant medical problems.
She was ecstatic when Obama won. Believed in all the right (to my mind) causes.
She loved mysteries, news shows, her family, her friends. Who will I call everyday now?
Her last words: "I feel sort of joyful."

My most sincere condolences to you all.
Oh Patti, I am so very very sorry. Deepest condolences to you and your family, and hugs too.
Thanks to both of you.
Patti,
Words are scant comfort at a time like this, but they're all we have. Always remember your mother lives on so long as you keep on with things she taught you, and maintain the attitudes you wrote so eloquently of in this post.
So sorry for your loss.
Oh my God. I'm so sorry to hear this. I infer from the tone of your post that this was not sudden, but it still has to be tough. Obviously. Hang in there.
Victor
Thanks all. You are never prepared for it.
Oh, Patti...my heart and my thoughts are with you. I know from personal experience that, no matter how prepared you think you are--you are not.
I am so, so sorry.
All the words in my lexicon, but none of them seem appropriate or even adequate. I'm sorry for your loss.
I'm sorry to hear this. Condolences.
Sounds like a wonderful person, and what great last words. Judy and I send our sympathy.
I'm so sorry, Patti. Nothing can prepare you for the loss of a parent. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
You have my deepest sympathy. I am so very sorry for your loss.
You and your family are in my prayers today. And her last words are, honestly, inspirational.
I'm so sorry to hear this Patti. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.
I'm very sorry.
I'm sorry for your loss, but I can't imagine better last words than those. I hope they provide a bit of comfort for you and your family.
You mother sounds like a wonderful lady.
Patti, My sincerest condolences to you and your family.
Patti, warm condolences. She sounds like some kind of a woman. take care.
I sense a lot of your mother in you. "I feel sort of joyful." Indeed.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about this, Patti. I lost my own mother much longer ago--in May 1989--but there isn't a day that goes by when I don't think about how she might interpret something that's going on in my life.
As long as you live, your mother is at your side. She just doesn't have the opportunity to question what you're doing any longer. ;)
Cheers,
Jeff
Sincere condolences from here in the UK, Patti.
Christine-Thanks for the flowers and Angie too. I am so touched.
Thanks to all of you. It means so much to me to be in your thoughts as you are in mine.
Christine-Thanks for the flowers and Angie too. I am so touched.

I am very sorry too, Patti.
Thanks, Pierre. Kind of you to write.
So sorry to hear this Patti. Your mother sounds like an incredible person. It must run in the family.
Sandra-as always the kind word. thanks. She was twice the person I am.
Dear Patti: My sincere condolences to you and your family.
John McAuley
Thanks, John.
I know this must have been quite a shock, Patti, and I'll second the thoughts of others here that it sounds like your mother was indeed a wonderful person. Perhaps you can post a little more about her love of mysteries and reading and if that influenced you in some way. I'd love to hear more about her!
Very sorry to hear of your loss. Just wanted to send you my deepest condolences.
Thanks so much--all of you. It means so much and I will think about BVs suggestion. My mother did give me the first adult mystery I ever read-The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. It was some time later before I realized the first person POV was an unorthodox choice for the murderer.
Patti
The memories you have of your mother will stay with you forever.
Best wishes at a time of sorrow.
Steve
blessings & prayers...
I'm so sorry. Your world has changed. But memories can connect you. Best wishes.
I think it is wonderful that your Mom felt kind of joyful.
Simultaneously, without knowing you beyond the web, I send my condolences to you and your family in your grieving.
I'll hold you in my thoughts and light a candle for you all.
Patti, I'm so sorry. Even when you know it's coming, it's really rough. Sympathy and prayers go out from my family to yours.
Our deepest condolences Patti. My own wonderful mother died over 10 years ago but I still feel she is with me.
We lost my mother in law in October she was 97 but it was still a shock. Although an ocean away she was like your mother a wonderful dancer, always very smart and always treated people with respect.
The world is a much poorer place without ladies like your mother. Our thoughts are with you.
It is really rough. For five years we have functioned as my parents' caretakers and at some point, although my mother was as sharp as ever mentally, I began to think of them both as my children. I had already lost one child and this feels like a second.
Patti, all my sympathies to you. Keep your memories close.
I'm sorry for your loss.
Thank all of you.
I'm so sorry, Patti. You have my condolences.
Sorry for your loss, Patti.
I'm sorry to hear that, Patti. Have strength! (And I know you will!)
I did a Forgotten Book post, but you don't have to worry about that.
Oh, and very beautiful last words.
That is the most beautiful description I think I've ever heard of a mother. She was clearly terrific. My deepest sympathies.
patti...
you don't know me. and i have no right other than this base realm of tenuous humanity, but i am sorry.
Oh, Patti, I'm so, so sorry. There's nothing anyone can say right now that will make it better. My deepest condolences on your loss.
Linda
Sorry to hear about your loss.
I am very sorry for your loss.
I can't tell you how much all of these expressions of sympathy have helped us today. Thanks from the bottom of my heart.
I'm sorry to hear the news. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Please take some time away from blogging to remember the wonderful times you had together. It's a difficult time, but you have remembered her well in the few words posted here. Her last words say she is going to a beautiful place. My thoughts are with you.
Barbara-Thanks so much.
Patti, thinking of you. xo
so sad to hear this news Patti. In many ways your mother will always be with you
Patti,
So sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you and your family.
Best,
W.
Patti - sending you the warmest hugs and sweetest thoughts. You mom was a woman who would have graced all our lives had we been lucky enough to have known her. What an incredible woman.
THanks, Kaye. She was that.
so sorry for the loss of your mom, patti :(
wednesday was the first anniversary of my dad's death...
I'm a little late, but wanted to say *sigh*. What else is there to say about someone so obviously warm and fine who will be deeply missed? Best to you and yours.
Patti:
I've often read your blog but have not commented before; I wish I had a happier reason to start.
All my sympathy on your loss.
Once again I thank all of you. How does it feel a year later. Right now it's a searing pain.
SteveHL-thanks for coming on now especially.
patti, i've been in a haze most of the week, but wednesday was the worst
blessings to you and yours....
I am so very sorry and please accept my condolences. It does get better. One day when you think of her you will smile instead of cry and that's when you know the healing has started. She will always be with you in so many ways.
