Election

I'm getting a little worried. Hillary is beginning to resemble the Reese Witherspoon character, Tracy Flick, in Election, feeling a sense of entitlement, willing to resort to dirty tricks. As it becomes clear that Obama may be the people's choice, will Senator Clinton resort more and more to personal attacks in the coming debates. If you were her advisers, would you suggest this as her only possible chance to win the next few primaries? Can she possibly win without doing this? Does she care about the Democratic Party enough to bow out gracefully or will she risk sabotaging their chances in November?
I have been of two minds about Hillary since the beginning, wanting a woman to be elected President but maybe not this woman. Now I want her to do the right thing and let the people speak. Don't gut Obama in the debates. Play nice.

The difference between Reese Witherspoon's character and Hillary Clinton is Hillary is working without a script.

I truly believe gutting Obama in a debate will do more damage to her than Howard Dean "Heeeeeyaaaaah!!!"

("We're going to go into Ohio! And Pennsylvania! And Texas!!!")

I honestly do not believe there's much Hillary can do at this point. Not only does she face a growing delegate gap, but the very real possibility her own superdels will turn on her. If the voters back Obama enough to make him more viable to McCain, Hillary is very likely to be put out to pasture for the good of the party.

Not that I care about party, mind you. I've been stabbed in the back by both of them and have the scars to prove it.

Here's the do-anything-it-takes approach that I find most amusing -- and despicable. Last year Sen. Clinton's advisor, Harold Ickes, voted in favor of stripping Michigan and Florida of their delegates for violating party rules on primaries, but now, he has changed his stance. Why? Because Sen. Clinton needs the delegates. See the AP story: http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080216/D8URLU1O0.html

My husband was sitting in a Burger King this morning in a blue-collar Detroit suburb and listened to a group of male seniors who couldn't say enough good stuff about Obama. They're were genuinely excited about the future. How things have changed.

Well, the Clintons have never been above dirty tricks, and most national poitical figures have someone around to pull a few for them. Clinton's vaguely negative speeches (except where criticizing others, where the vagueness dissipates) aren't a winning strategy against Obama's vaguely positive ones (except where criticizing others, briefly).

I see Bloomberg being wooed into running. The only way we're likely to see President McCain. Thanks largely to that ever so useful Electoral College.

Oh, dear. The idea of Bloomberg seemed vaguely humorous when we were talking about Rudy and Hillary on the tkts. But now, it seems like something altogether different.

Put a fork in Hillary. She's done.

I think so. At least she didn't go for the jugular last night. She kept her dignity.
