FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

I know saying one more good thing about this show is like dropping a pebble in the ocean, but I think it's one of the best shows ever done for television. I just learned a third season is going to be financed by NBC and Direct TV.
If you haven't given it a try, do. It's not just about football or even mostly about football. It's about life in a small Texas town, good and bad parenting, the stigma of being poor or black, paraplegic culture, what it's like to be a teenager, what it's like to be a friend. The production values are superior, the acting sublime, the writing superlative. And if you haven't given it a good try, please do. You're truly missing something.

I love this show. I wouldn't mind of there was more football, but I realize that's just me.

It really is terrific.

Strangely enough for me, I wouldn't mind either.

You would think the fair amount of football, male bonding, and one of the comeliest of female casts since, say, ONCE AND AGAIN might draw more male viewers.

But at least it's getting a shot, unlike JOURNEYMAN. The worthwhile LIFE is coming back, too.

Yeah, why don't people like it more?

I think part of it is that the show is a little too tough and too real. On many shows they would have used the drama of the QB getting paralyzed, but then either we would never see him again, or he'd start walking again. Week after week this show digs a little deeper.

The teenagers aren't all self-referential, pop culture savvy and mature -- they're actual kids, awkward, often immature and unsure of themselves.

There's an adult relationship between the coach and his wife.

Looking at what is popular on TV, I wonder why we think this should be? I mean, I'd like it if it was, but, it would be a surprise.

YAY!!!!!!!!! I don't have to fret about this fantastic show being scrapped for more diamonds like "When Sharks Attack Reality Stars" or some such reality show drivel.

This truly is one of the best TV shows I've ever seen - atypical of dramas past or present.
