I made arrangements to put up a new fence across our backyard. We have to wait until October however. Apparently the dearth of people willing to work for the kind of low wages places like this pay has cut down on their employee pool. I heard the same thing from a few other places recently. I will be very glad to have a fence that isn't falling over come October. Just in time for snow.
Saw an interesting documentary about Gertrude Bell, who was a founder of modern day Baghdad. Her accomplishments were many. The footage the film had from 1920s Iraq was amazing.
I am going to talk to a book group this week about SHOT IN DETROIT. I have always been somewhat worried about this because I'm a transplant to Detroit and have been afraid I got some of it wrong. Or was in someway exploitative. Crossed fingers it goes well.
So happy Phil, Josh and Kevin got to see the Tigers win. The white stuff on Phil's face is zinc from the sun bloc.
Grantchester on PBS is going in unexpected directions. All three major characters are having crises unrelated to crime-solving. Bravo for making me interested in their lives as much as their crimes.

Sounds good. Can't believe in this economy that people aren't happy to have the work and ready to get right on it.
Nothing exciting here, which is the way I like it. Jackie had to get a replacement phone, which worked out. I had to get the computer fixed, which we did rather than buying a new one. Saw a couple of movies, read several books, and watched Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Just another quiet summer week, not terribly hot, which is good.
I'm happy Diane and I will be attending our 50th High School Reunion this week. We look forward to meeting classmates we haven't seen in a decade.
My class didn't have one, George and that was okay with me. I'd rather have the memories than the reality about now.
Not terribly hot here either.
I skipped my 50th reunion too. I haven't had any contact with anyone I knew then in decades. I thought about it, but it wasn't even in Brooklyn.
Hope your talk goes well
I love it that you're going to be talking to a book group, Patti; I know it'll be interesting.
I've talked in bookstores but in nothing this intimate.
Our Lilies are at peak, and just amazing! I'll be posting garden shots Wednesday which include several pictures of them. The whole garden is at it's Summer peak. All the work pays off.
I'm slowly getting my glucose numbers down, though it means a lot of willpower and self-denial, as the way is no sweets and very few carbs, which is very limiting.
The weather is staying in the low 80s, though it's been 5 weeks since we had even a drop of rain.
I just read a book I quite enjoyed (Patricia Moyes) which will be my FFB this week.
You will do great on the book group talk, Patti!
The Kangaroo turned five yesterday. Pizza and wings and cake and ice cream. For that menu he can turn five every day.
He also promised to be a very good boy now that he is five, and not to get into trouble. Last week (way back when he was four), he took a special rock his brother had gotten in France and lost it. Yesterday, he found it so peace was restored and his five-year-old goodness was off to a good start.
Dentist this morning. I survived.
I'm with you on GRANTCHESTER. Also watched season 3 of THE FALL. Chuffed about the return of THE GAMES OF THRONES.
We got some confusing news from one of Kitty's doctors, who recommended some drastic treatments -- none of which made sense to us. We both decided not to panic and to demand more information before we were locked into a decision. Turns out this was our best course as we move ahead; drastic treatments may well not be needed.
Sorry about the confusing news. That seems to happen a lot. Several times with Phil there was a divergence of opinion. But the primary oncologist usually got everyone else on board. Not sure how that will work out.
A day late here but my wife and I went out last Tuesday to celebrate a friend's 40th birthday.
The weather has been nice and I'm looking forward to getting some reading done at Scout camp next week.
This has been a summer with good beer. I think I have a wedding anniversary coming up and should see if my wife wants to visit a brewery we've not been to yet.
Have been to a winery or two in CA but never a brewery.
The are plenty of small brewers in Wisconsin. Many have restaurants attached.
