Forgotten Movies: THE LOCKET

If someone asked me what film sent Megan running toward noir, I would name this film.I remember her watching it like it was yesterday.

Eerie, surprising, complex. I look for it on TCM sometimes and never see it. It's a B cast (Larraine Day, Brian Aherne, Robert Mitchun)  but it works. The movie was known for its extensive and skillful use of flashbacks.Have you seen it?

This is one I admit I've not seen, 'though I've heard of it. Thanks for the reminder.

This is perhaps one of the most difficult movies to see -- anywhere! It's never been released on VHS or DVD that I know of. I've been trying to see it for close to thirty years! I keep missing it at crime film festivals and Eddie Mueller's Noir City touring film festival that often shows up in Chicago in August. Never seen it on TV though I most definitely remember it was on AMC back in the Bob Dorian days. It ran during a celebration of underrated noir and crime movies and I remember him talking about the flashback structure. But I kept missing it and never managed to tape it.

If you ever see it on the schedule, let me know. Megan saw it on Bill Kennedy, a local movie show that showed a ton of movies like this on weekends. Never ran across it again.

Do you really consider Robert Mitchum a lesser actor?

Mitchum was I suppose just about to become an A star at that time (and just before his reefer conviction). But he was never a B actor in my view :)
