Very few people reached out to me earlier in my writing life than Ed Gorman, kindly including stories of mine in two of his yearly anthologies. Sending me copies of his books. Giving me encouragement numerous times. And being part of FFB almost from the beginning. He loved having his review featured, and I was happy to do that. He sent me an email now and then, offering encouragement, talking politics, telling me about a new book. I will miss him very much. Although we never met in person, I felt I knew him well. At least I have his blog to peruse. Hope now one takes it down.

Patti, I'm deeply sorry to hear about Mr. Gorman. He was a terrific writer and a supportive blogger. I didn't know him in person either but he'd promptly respond to my feedback. I'm glad I have plenty of his books to read.
Ed was one of the most supportive people in the crime fiction community, always championing the new and younger writers. He even sent me a couple of personal emails in the first few years of my blog to complement me on what I was doing to revive an interest in the "oldies, but goodies." A real loss to the community. Wish there were more people like him out there.
Terrible news. Ed was one of the most influential and kindest person in the mystery field. He will be missed.
We feared it was coming, as he grew more and more tired, but we prayed the tough little Irishman would beat the reaper somehow anyway. He did, of course, as he lives in our memories and in the marvelous canon of novels and stories he left with us.
Just horrible news. It has been a horrible weekend. Losing Ed as well as one of our friends we had gained through sharing more hours than we would want to count at the hospital getting cancer treatment at the same time. Like Ed, Vickie is gone and will never be forgotten.
