I was a young playwright student at the Pasadena Playhouse when A Star Is Born first appeared. This song introduced me to Judy Garland at that time. She has haunted me ever since, even now, close to six decades later. There is something both brilliant and off-center about her.

She was something special all right. And this was her best picture, I think. Well, this and MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS.
What an incredible voice, and so tragically exploited...
A real star and magnificent talent.
