I had big problems with this movie. But Linus Roache was amazing nonetheless.
A much better film about the sacrifices men make in their emotional lives in order to live the life of a priest is addressed more eloquently in THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND, an Australian film based on Thomas Kennealy's novel. (Not to be confused with a documentary with the same name about Amish teens who go on their furloughs into the "real world".)
Oops! Need to correct a big memory lapse on my part. The writer Thomas Keneally only acted in the movie. THE DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND was written by the film's director Australian Fred Schepisi.

PRIEST a rather better film than THE LOVE BOAT (either version) was as a tv series...
(Though the FANTASY ISLAND revival was pretty good...and ?therefore? shortlived.)
Makes me cry.
Oh, this is one I've not seen, Patti. Interesting choice.

I'll look for that one, John.
