Bernard Herrmann is the composer who turned me on to classical music as a kid and his Wagnerian theme is just sublime (I think Durgnat called it, "Gatterdammerung detective").
Love this music. The other well known musical motif from this movie, often called "Vertigo Love Theme," was used in a scene in THE ARTIST. I still haven't a clue why it was used. The music from Vertigo is immediately recognizable to any film buff and belongs to that movie. When it played in the background I was taken out of the silent world of THE ARTIST and starting seeing Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart in the redwood forest.
