Holy smoke. I think of this as her signature song. But then again, she made just about every song her "signature song." Thanks.

I think I remember this right. I was coming home from school one day and heard on the car radio that she had been hospitalized, and there was all this trouble with a drug arrest and so on. It was 1959. A month or two later she had died.

What really turned me on to Billie Holiday was the movie Rocket Gibraltar, where the dying Burt Lancaster played her records constantly.

I don't think I have ever seen ROCKET GIBRALTOR.
She was a real train wreck all right but I could listen to her and Nina Simone all day.
