From what I've been able to determine our neighborhood seems to have some downed trees but no major power outages especially considering how bad it is elsewhere.
It's hard to overestimate what no power in all of lower Manhattan below 39 Street means.
I have been hearing some mighty sad stories. I am worried about Sandra Scoppettone who is on the tip of LI in Southold. Haven't heard from her yet. And Kieran Shea who sent me an email just before the storm from OC NJ.
The footage of Staten Island on tonight's TV could break your heart. Lived through a couple hurricanes on LI Sound in CT years ago. And severe flooding from Hurricane Agnes in northern Pennsylvania in 1972. If you haven't been through something like it, you just have no idea the magnitude of the impact, not just during the time it takes to get the power back on and cleaned up. The experience haunts you for years.

Help out and make a donation to the Red Cross.
It looks terrible... I hope everyone checks in soon.
We've seen similar weather here in Mississippi, but the damage is much less somehow.
