The Smiths (and Morrissey as a solo act) produced some of the saddest songs ever--"Girlfriend in a Coma," "Every Day's Like Sunday," not to mention the song about being hit by a double-decker bus; and yet there's a certain jauntiness to the music that brings me back to listening to them again and again.
