I read the first two novels in Sassoon's trio of autobio novels. They were quite good.
The first novel is his prewar life growing up with his aunt (maybe his grandmother) and going fox hunting. The second novel is him joining the Brit Army and fighting in France.
Very sad novels. Reading of the wartime death of a groomsman from the first book was a gut punch.
Good for you, Gerard. I have a vague memory of excerpts being in some college or hs text book. Pat Barker's series covers this period well. (And sadly).

Patti - It's always so good to be reminded of good poetry. I'm glad you do this feature.
