People loved to make fun of her because of the geeky way she and her brother looked, especially considering it was the early 1970's, but she was a brilliant singer. I still listen to their music. Her phrasing is impeccable.
I really like the Carpenters. Her voice was amazing. Saw them in Vegas New Years Eve 1977. Their song "We've Only Just Begun" was played at my wedding in 1978 and was the last song played at my son's wedding reception last month.
Her voice was so pure-you understood every word, the feeling behind it, the musicality in it. What a shame we lost her so early. A perfect song for special occasions-We've Only Just Begun.
They just didn't understand eating disorders 30 years ago the way we do today. The family's response when Karen's weight plummeted to less than 90 lbs. was to put her in a hospital where she was force-fed Hagen Daas every day for a month. She gained a few pounds ( who wouldn't?), but the underlying causes of her anorexia were never addressed.

She had a wonderful voice. I still listen to their music, too.

Patti - What a sad, sad loss her death was. A truly gifted musical artist....

Long before her sad sad death, to me the most distinguishing characteristic of her gorgeous voice was its piercing element of melancholy.
I was one of those who dismissed her geeky band, but over the years I came to appreciate the beauty of her voice.
Patti, does this mean you're home? How was the trip?
