About Me
Patricia Abbott is the author of more than 125 stories that have appeared online, in print journals and in various anthologies. She is the author of two print novels CONCRETE ANGEL (2015) and SHOT IN DETROIT (2016)(Polis Books). CONCRETE ANGEL was nominated for an Anthony and Macavity Award in 2016. SHOT IN DETROIT was nominated for an Edgar Award and an Anthony Award in 2017. A collection of her stories I BRING SORROW AND OTHER STORIES OF TRANSGRESSION will appear in 2018.
She also authored two ebooks, MONKEY JUSTICE and HOME INVASION and co-edited DISCOUNT NOIR. She won a Derringer award for her story "My Hero." She lives outside Detroit.

Kind of a high-risk post for the night before Sunday... Was this song ever sung or recorded without the "upbeat" ending? Did it actually cause a spike in suicides and was it banned from airplay, or is that an urban myth? Thanks for posting anything about Billie Holiday. This cowboy has always been in awe of her.
She is the best. And sometimes a Saturday night feels like a Sunday, right?
Oh, Patti, Billie Holiday was such a rare musical talent! Just love her stuff! Thanks for sharing!
My favorite on-screen use of Billie Holiday music was in one of Burt Lancaster's last films, ROCKET GIBRALTAR. There was a great supporting cast in this Long Island-shot indie, including John Glover, Kevin Spacey, Bill Pullman, Patricia Clarkson, and a very young Macaulay Culkin.
Lancaster is a dying man whose family gathers around him on his birthday. One of his greatest joys left is listening to Holiday.

Great movie but I could watch Lancaster read the phone book.
Though Lancaster was another of those anti-paragons in daily life. I direct all fans to the rarish Billie Holiday footage from STARS OF JAZZ I linked to last Tuesday in my Overlooked entry (near the bottom of the posting).
