I was transfixed, Patti. Extraordinary emotional pull in those lines.
I heard read a few times over the years - an extraordinary poet, on the page and in the air.
I heard him read a few times over the years - an extraordinary poet, on the page and in the air.
His true gift was to bring the life of working people into 1960s American poetry. He was very much an outsider. "They Feed The Lion" was a seminal civil rights poem.
