Hm. Angels...the first stories that come to mind are rather peripheral, and mostly deal with ghosts rather than angels, or, as with Henry Kuttner's "The Misguided Halo," with angels' apparatus rather than they themselves. SV Benet's poem "Nightmare with Angels" being the kind of peripheral thing I refer to, as is one of C. B. Gilford's...
Try Gabriel Garcia-Marquez's story "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings." The question remains: Is It a story about angels? But Garcia-Marquez--always ironic and challenging--invites readers to ponder that question and more in this superb story.
I fear I have no idea. I don't know that I've ever read much about angels in the modern day. I loved a story about a little angel who was a guardian angel back when I was in grade school.
I know you are thinking in terms of short stories, but to throw a completely different angle at you, since you're researching, try the Old and New Testaments, both of which have narratives that feature angels. Just a thought ...
If you're thinking about a dark angel story, you must read THE STUPIDEST ANGEL, by Christopher Moore. Have you read LAMB? I'm guessing you would love him. VERY funny.

Thank you, Patti...by the way, Phil looks good with the clown nose. ;)

Debbie Macomber is big on angels.

Oh, thanks. I have a rather dark angel story in mind but I'd like to see what's been done before I risk repeating it.
One of my favorite stories ever happens to be an angel story, "Murder Mysteries" by Neil Gaiman.
Thanks, John. I'll track it down.
Doesn't Mary Stanton have a series with angels? To be honest, I'm not sure, I just wanted to see what other people had suggested.
sounds like you may have a pretty clear field - so fly away

I wrote one but scrapped it.
BTW Friday's book is up.

Angel stories to read are: Wormwood by G.P. Taylor, and Miss Garnet's Angel by Salley Vickers.
Anne Rice has a new book about angels coming out in the fall that is the first in a series.
Angel stories seem to be the rage now with publishers.
Lots of angels to track down. THANKS!
