Are you sure it's Fred giving John an Edgar for THE LIFE OF SIR. ARTHUR CONAN DOYLE in 1950?
In 1950 they both received an Edgar.
Dannay received his 1949 Short Story Award (Edgar) "for ten years service through EQMM."

It sure looks like it's Fred who's receiving an award...
Long time ago I also found the same picture on eBay where the seller also states "CARR is presenting QUEEN with an EDGAR"

Perhaps they just exchanged awards?
