Favorite Twilight Zone Episode: EYE OF THE BEHOLDER (Spoiler)

This one aired in 1962 and it concerns a woman having cosmetic surgery. She is ostracized and wants to correct things and look normal. We only see her swathed in bandages. When they are finally removed, the doctors are dismayed that the surgery has failed. But what we see is the gorgeous Donna Douglas. The trick becomes clear when the camera swivels around and shows the monster-like faces of the surgical team.

This scared me forevermore.Written by Rod Serling.

Patti - Oh, I've always loved this episode! I also like Living Doll for its creepiness value. What a fabulous series.

That is definitely one of the most memorable episodes, along with things like "Time Enough at Last" (which spoke to me as a kid) and "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" and ...oh, a dozen more.

Definitely one of the major achievements in TV. I can still remember a dozen or so and I can't say that of many other shows of that era.

Loved this one, made the kid I was feel better about me, and all of those mentioned. Consistently good over it's time.

Yes! That was part of it. The notion that we are all strangers here.

the one in which the man finally had time to read and then broke his glasses. Heartbreaking!

It's A Good Life based on the Jerome Bixby short story.

The Burgess Meredith one was airing the night my grandfather died in 1960,. COuld never bear to watch it again.

That is a good one. Not my favorite. That might be "Time Enough at Last." or The obsolete man.

I think THE TWILIGHT ZONE gets most of its most ardent fans from those who were introduced to its kind of fantasy by it...but some, particularly the Charles Beaumont scripts, are quite impressive.

I haven't read it yet, but recently have been told that Lyn Venable's short story in the sf magazine IF was rather faithfully reproduced by Serling's script for "Time Enough at Last". Much as with Bixby and Damon Knight ("To Serve Man"), people so rarely credit the originators...

I watched this episode of THE TWILGHT ZONE as a kid. But, little did I know my younger sister was hiding behind a living room chair and was watching it, too! This episode freaked my little sister out (she was crying with fright most of the night!). As a result, my parents banned THE TWILIGHT ZONE from our house. I had to sneak over to a neighbor's house to see it!

One that scared me to death was about a little girl who had what seemed like an imaginary friend under her bed. I think probably we should not have been watching some of these episodes.

There was another plastic surgery episode where everyone had to choose one of two possible models to "transform" into when they reach maturity. Naturally, there's a young woman who doesn't want to undergo the surgery.

I still like To Serve Man the best--I always get a little shock when the woman yells "It's...a cookbook!"
