Mad Men

The last four episodes of MAD MEN have raised the bar for story telling on TV considerably. In fact, I can't remember a movie that would equal their combined narrative power.

And this, the penultimate scene in this week's episode, is brilliant.

We don't need any dialog to tell us that each of these five characters has been dealt a ferocious blow or disgraced themself. That once again, life has turned out to be disappointing, frustrating, cruel. A party only heightens the discontent in every day life.

And Sally Draper, you don't stand a chance in the world. Someone will always be telling you to take off your go-go boots.

To read an interview with Megan and a story (The Book of Lies) by me, check out the new issue of CRIME FACTORY,

Thanks for the tips (CRIME FACTORY and MM). I'm playing catch up on MM, only belatedly tumbling to Jessica Pare's presence as the New Wife (she is looking starved compared to even what she looked like in HOT TUB TIME MACHINE, but positively robust compared to most starving actresses). I'm not sure I'll be as swept away as you, but the penultimate episode was pretty solid, if again a little too overdetermined (as this series has been for me from jump...they couldn't've made the mutual estrangement over the purse on the table more thudding).

I was shocked at the last episode of MAD MEN. When Sally Draper is asked how NY City was, she answers, "Dirty." That word encompasses plenty after Sally witnesses an encounter with Roger Sterling and her step-grandmother.

Perfect. And it was physically dirty by the late sixties and into the seventies. Very different today. And that boy is a bit scary, no? I'm not sure where that story line is going.

I will definitely end up renting this whole series at some point. I've heard so much good about it.

Sally's friend, Glen Bishop, is played by Matthew Weiner's son, Marten Holden Weiner. I'm with you, Patti. He's a creepy character.

Still haven't seen it, and now it's way too late to get started, I wouldn't have a clue who was who or what was going on. Problem is you never know until it's too late...

I am sorry I missed several ones. With arcs, it is hard starting late.
