I heard about Daryl's house on NPR today. Go check out some nice jam sessions. Cool way to find some new music.
Friday nights if nothing else is going on, we head to the Detroit Institute of Arts, have dinner there, see a movie, listen to some music, and catch an exhibit or two.
This week we saw a good movie Alamar about a Dad in Mexico showing his son what his life was like in a fishing village before the boy flew home to his mother in Rome. Breathtaking scenes of the coral reef and aquatic life.
The exhibit was prints of the fantastic throughout five hundred years and amazing. We loved it and their print gallery is so cozy and inviting.
But the icing on the cake of our evening was the cake we had for dessert. Made by Inn Season restaurant in Royal Oak Michigan and served by the Crystal Cafe at the Detroit Film Theater (to get the low-down I promised a plug) it was cashew cardamon cake, layered with vanilla and spices and frosted with an almond frosting. It was heaven. The cake above is not it but it looked similar. The only thing that beats it was my grandmother's orange and raisin cake which use an entire orange, skin and pulp included. This was lighter though.
What is your favorite dessert? What could you not pass up?

Patti - It sounds like you had a wonderful time :-)! Thanks for sharing. And that cake looks scrumptious, too! There aren't many desserts that I couldn't resist, actually; I'm not that much of a "dessert" person. But a piece of chocolate-drizzled cheesecake would test my resolve to its limit...
Chocolate pudding pie. But I'm pretty easy when it comes to desserts. I don't like spice cake and I'm not a great pumpkin fan but otherwise... .

I haven't seen my daughter eat a dessert in 20 years and my husband only falls for rice pudding, but even he liked this one. Chocolate pudding pie--have never had it. But anything chocolate sounds good.
That surely must have been a sin. :)
As you've probably figured out, I'll eat just about anything (except squid). Dessert favorites: pecan pie and anything chocolate. I'm with Jeff on the chocolate pudding pie. Diane makes a delicious apple pie.
I cannot bake a pie. The women in my family are crust-challenged.
Apple is a favorite too, George, as is pecan. But blueberry crumb is also one I love. And Key lime. And peach, if it isn't too mushy.
Jackie usually buys pre-made crust unless she's using crushed graham crackers for the chocolate pudding pie.
Her favorite, by the way, is cherry pie, which is not something I love, unless it has ice cream on it.

I'm a huge fan of Live from Daryl's House. The eps with Patrick Stump and Chromeo are among my favorites.
