DOWN TO THE BONE
If you want to see what kind of movie director, Debra Granik, makes before WINTER"S BONE comes out, take a look at this little gem from 2004. It's a downer and since it's set in upstate New York in winter, also depressing, but Vera Farmiga should have received some awards for her portrayal of a druggie Mom trying to get it together. You love her, you hate her, you can't take your eyes off of her.
And it is so easy to see why Granik would be attracted to WINTER'S BONE after this. The locations might be separated by miles but not by circumstances.
Can't wait.

Just got Winter's Bone from the library. I'll probably start reading it tonight.
It's a honey of a book.
I'll look out for this.

Terrific book. Please let them have actors who can get the accent right.
I somehow never heard of this movie, so thanks for mentioning it.

By the way, it seems Farmiga did get an award - the Los Angeles Film Critics Association gave her the Best Actress Award.

I think it might be good based on it winning Sundance.
She deserved an award, Jeff. She was in every scene of the movie and made it bearable. You know drug movies tend to follow a script.
Oh, wow, can't wait for this. The book is terrific. Hopefully the film will live up to the book. And that it'll be available on this side of the pond.
Me either. And since it won Sundance I think it will be pretty darn good.
