Short Story Wednesdays?

We seem to be facing another long winter and I couldn't help but notice how many of you were reading short stories and I thought why not share them. Just a very short review or anything you want to say about the collection, the author, your history with it. Maybe we'll do it every Wednesday. No one should feel obliged to do one each week, but if we alternate we'll always have to figure out if this is the week.

Anyone that doesn't have a blog (Jeff, Steve, Gerard, etc) can send me their review and I will post it. Also if you know of anyone else that doesn't frequent this blog, please invite them. I will look for your links and post them. What do you think? If it's good, let's start next week, October 14th.

I like your short story Wednesday idea. But, I'll have to submit one next week since I have this week already set up with Sherlock Holmes Week.

Excellent. My current reading: I am back with F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Complete Short Stories, the Kindle edition, which you can probably get for $1.99 from Amazon. Several of his collections are FREE online. This has, by my quick count just now, 147 stories, arranged chronologically. I've read many of the shorter collections in the past, but decided to go through all of these - I am 70% done - and whenever I am between books I go back to this. Of course, his famous stories are here, some very good - Bernice Bobs Her Hair (I remember the television adaptation with Shelley Duvall in the title role, in 1976), The Diamond as Big as The Ritz, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. You see certain themes, and you definitely can see the connection to his life in some of these, and his return again and again to his St Paul youth. The "young couple in Europe" stories can't help but remind you of the Lost Generation stuff. I am not a fan of most of the Basil & Josephine stuff, but overall this one is definitely worth your while, and the price is right. He was no Chekhov or John O'Hara, or Hemingway for that matter, but I'm glad I've read these.

I really like this idea, Patti. I keep looking at my short story books all over the house, and thinking about reading a story or two. I will definitely join in. Starting October 14th.

I love that idea, Patti! I'll be honest; I'm not sure how often I'll be able to participate, but I'm really looking forward to reading others' discussion.
