THINGS THAT ARE MAKING ME HAPPY
Had a great week in DC visiting my brother and his wife in Virginia and old friends in Maryland. Loved both movies, liked the play (Sondheim) had several great meals, went to an exhibit at the National Geographic Museum on the Queens of Egypt, saw two old friends from my childhood (separately) went to Leesburg (mostly restaurants now) and got lost in a park. All great fun.
What about you if you are not tired of telling it?

The only movie I have seen recently was It part 2. Not as good as part 1. Could have been cut by 20 minutes. Have zero interest in Hustlers.
Finished season 2 of both Trapped and Mindhunters.
Read Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell. The Whisper Man by Alex North-okay but overhyped. A story collection by Brian Evenson-Song For the Unraveling of the World which I liked a lot. The Lonely Witness by William Boyle-good but I got tired of the continual bad choices of the main character. Am now reading The Institute by Stephen King.
Went to a baby shower Saturday for my oldest granddaughter. Nice to see both my daughters and 7 of my grandkids. Going tonight to see Patti Smith. Within walking distance which is nice.
Glad to hear you had such a good time. We enjoyed our four days in Bethesda and Washington last week as well. What made it particularly nice (besides the lack of crowds, as kids are back in school and Congress was still in recess) was the better than normal weather, cooler and less humid than we usually have.
Since we've been back, it's mostly been eating and reading and watching television. We finished the first series of TRAPPED and BLACK SPOT and a few other things, started MINDHUNTER series two, and are watching the German CHARITE AT WAR, set in a Berlin hospital in 1943. The first two episodes of GLOW series three were a snore (other than the Ruth and Sam scenes), and if it doesn't improve next episode, we may drop it.
Jackie got her wish and we are going to see HADESTOWN for her birthday at tomorrow's matinee.
The weather continues mostly nice.
Would love to see HADESTOWN. Happy Birthday, Jackie.
Hope Patti is in good form, Steve. You are lucky to have all those grandkids.
Sounds like you had a good time, Patti. Always glad to hear that.
It's been rainy and cool here, with more of the same for at least another week, so Fall is arriving a little early. No complaints, though, we need the rain. That weather makes it good reading weather, but I've not found a novel that thrills me, other than a Zorro pulp novel, so I've mostly been reading short stories. I have several things on hold at the library, all SF, but none have shown up yet.
We've watched the first two nights of Ken Burns' 8-part film on country music. Though neither of us is much of a listener to that type of music, Burns always tells an interesting story with often fascinating details and lots of archival stills and footage. It's two hours per night Sun-Wed, then again next week the same. We're enjoying it.
Barbara has started going to the club (24 Hour Fitness) again now that her knee is fully recovered from her meniscus surgery. though she has to modify some of the exercises in her pilates class. She's reading the most recent of Camillari's Inspector Montalbano Books, and as always really enjoying it. She finished the new Krueger and liked it a lot too, though she said it was tough going at times.
Patti-I have ten grandkids. Christmas can be a nightmare. Next Sunday and the following Wednesday MJR is playing The Maltese Falcon if you are interested. It's sometimes nice to see an older film on the big screen.
Glad you had a nice trip.
Yes, I would like to see it on the big screen. I'll email you.
I watched the first part and misunderstood it would be playing S-W but I can get it on demand. Thanks, Rick.
Diane and I. are binging on DOWNTON ABBEY. We're watching the Sixth and final Season today. DOWNTON ABBEY: THE MOVIE opens tomorrow. We already have tickets to it.
The Western NY weather continues to stay in the 70s with low humidity.
The Buffalo Bills are 2-0 and fans are excited. The Jets, Giants, and Steelers look like their seasons are over because of their Quarterback problems.
Glad you had a nice vacation! We're looking forward to seeing you in Dallas.
I drove up to Wausau with Boy #1 for a mountain bike race. He did well and his race class is very competitive. He also earned 20th place in his cross country race yesterday and received a medal.
I look forward to two days of vacation where my wife and I are both off on Thursday and Friday and have a beer club meeting Thursday evening. Another cross country meet is Saturday and I want to force Boy #2 to get out of bed and come with us.
The back parking lot at my library is FINALLY be redone and greatly expanded.
I just saw that Boy #1 ran a career best time yesterday at 18:19.
That sounds like a wonderful trip, Patti, all of it but especially seeing childhood friends again. On Friday we are going to the Planned Parenthood book sale (our first visit of probably four while it is open) and I am going to buy books I don't need since I have hundreds of books on my TBR shelves. It is an event I look forward to all year.
Alice and ! might've been closer to you than we knew last Saturday, as we took a trip to DC to a stillborn protest, but did enjoy some decent conversation on the walk around DC and on the train down and back. And Theo and Sue Meyer were kind enough to give us lifts back and forth to 30th St. We did see the Trumpian Little Wall...the boondoggle White Houde fence replacement.
For what it is worth, the WH new fence was ordered and paid for back during Obama's deal to try and prevent the fence jumping by folks who seemingly don't know better. It is not a Trump deal. It just took that long to grind through the system. Just like the new fencing that Trump brags about is actually the replacement fencing that was ordered and paid for back during Obama.
Anyway, nothing is making me "happy" these days.
I can say that the boy genuis and I enjoyed IN THE DARK which we saw on HULU. Apparently, it was first on CW. BULLETPOINTS was also on CW over the summer and we liked it, though we did have trouble with the British accents at times. The same issue though this time the accents are Austrailian cones up with MR. INBETWEEN which just started its second season on FX.
I apologize in advance for any typos I miss. My new glasses are now not so great post dental surgery as it seems my eyes shifted a bit. All involved state that can NOT happen and yet, I can tell it has.
I am also looking forward to the ending of reruns and the return of NCIS and otehr shows this week.
