Man Up

A single woman runs into a 40 year old divorcee, Jack, who mistakes her for his 24 year old blind date. Nancy goes with it and they share a very funny evening.
'Man Up' is a romantic comedy about taking chances, finding about being yourself, making decisions and rolling with the consequences.
Simon Pegg is always enjoyable but this is the first time I've seen him play the romantic lead. He does a good job as does Lake Bell. Directed by Ben Palmer, just the nice sort of movie you want on a late summer evening.

Man Up is available on Netflix and runs less than 90 minutes, my sweet spot for romantic comedies.

I don't really go for rom-coms very often, Patti, but this one sounds good.

Sounds good! Diane is always in the mood for a romantic comedy.

I'm sure Jackie will be interested too.

I just saw there is going to be a third Steve Coogan/Rob Brydon road movie, THE TRIP TO SPAIN. I'm looking forward to that.

And it is a nice film-not saccharine but good-hearted.

I"m always ready for a Lake Bell project. (She was one of the Best Cast on Television I once cited to you as part of CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL...a series you weren't likely ever to see on strength of title alone, and perhaps were not reassured by it being a surreal sitcom). Pegg doesn't discourage me, either.

Caught Bell's pet project IN A WORLD on cable the other week and liked it even better the second time. Just saw ATOMIC BLONDE yesterday, on what turns out to be Charlize Theron's 42nd birthday. Enjoyed it, particularly when after the first 40 minutes or so there was a bit reason to care what happened to any of the characters. Most remarkable critique of this spy drama, though, was that it spent so little time exploring the inner lives of its characters...something adept spies are constantly putting on display.

I seem to be the only person in the world who doesn't care for Simon Pegg's acting. He always looks like he's mugging for the camera even when he's trying to be serious.

I liked her in that too, Todd but never managed to get to CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL. I think mugging is pretty ubiquitous with British comic actors and guess I have gotten used to it.

One episode of CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL involved a long shaggy-dog joke about an impeding visit from Dean Koontz, which piqued Ed Gorman's interest, as Koontz collaborator/ghost-writer on the Frankenstein books.

Impeding, impending...both, to some extent...

We just watched the movie. Very entertaining, other than creepy Sean.

I thought Bell did a quite credible (and creditable) British accent.

Me, too. I have to ask myself if she was really British.

She went to college there, and acted in several theatrical productions.
