MAX ET LES FERRAILLEURS
This has one of the best premises ever. A police detective, failing to bring cases to a satisfactory conclusion, manoeuvers a group of small time crooks into a major crime so he can solve it.
This film was just released in the U.S. for the first time. We saw it at our local art museum theater.
Not a perfect movie, but fun. And Romy is gorgeous.

Patti - Oh, I hadn't heard of this film before. I think that premise is terrific! As long as a premise isn't hackneyed, I really couldn't say there's one I like more than others. It just has to be believable and not 'cookie-cutter.'
A film I had no idea about, Patti. Duly noted. Premise? I keep going back to MEMENTO.
patti, this film sounds really interesting. One movie with a premise that comes to mind is FARGO and the character of William H. Macy though I liked Frances McDormand's cop character a lot.
Love MEMENTO too.
Never heard of MAX either.

Funny to think how few films actually have an inventive premise but how many books do.

Christopher Nolan's films tend to strike me as how not to do notional movies.
