I Just Have to Congratulate My Daughter

(at the Edgar Awards with her co-nominees)

for being nominated for an Edgar, the Hammett Prize, the LA Book Prize, the Macavity, the Anthony, and the Barry Awards for BURY ME DEEP.

She doesn't like me to to use my blog to talk about her, but my goodness! No need to add a comment because it is her achievement and not mine.

I am just glad to claim her as my kid.

Wow. This book goes on my list right now. I had no idea you had such genius progeny.

I guess the question here is, why didn't I connect you two. The answer? I'm old, distracted and clueless. Congratulations to both of you. As a parent, I understand there's a halo effect.

Thanks!
David-You're not the first.Abbott is not an unusual name. Although in Detroit it is usually thought to be Middle Eastern now and pronounced Abbottie.

Hey, when it's That many nominations, it Really starts being an Honor to simpy be nominated. And, of course, she carries off a gown so much better than her fellow nominees do in the photo...

Now, when you two start showing up on the Same shortlists simultaneously...suddenly Phil will be very glad he's not in CF fandom/prodom...

Kind of you to say, Todd. Maybe in my next life.

Congratulations to Megan, and to you, Patti. Parents are allowed to be proud of their children. This is an outstanding achievement and deserves to be recognized.

There is nothing wrong with being a proud parent. Congrats to you both!

You and Phil should be very proud of your daughter's accomplishments. But, when you have two such wonderful parents, plenty of success is sure to follow!

As others say, you're a proud parent. Every parent is proud of their children's accomplishments. So blog away.

And congrats to her.

BURY ME DEEP was shockingly good book; it drew me into its world like few others I have read. I truly think this is a book people will still read and talk about in twenty, thirty, fifty years. Megan's kudos are well deserved.

And you realize that novels aren't the only literary form to get shortlisted, of course...

pattinase (abbott) said...

However, the short stories almost always come from AHMH or EQMM.
Thanks, Dana. I'm gonna get you to blurb my first book--if that ever happens.

If she were my daughter I would certainly also blog about her :D

Congratulations!

I've been rather surprised how few shortlisted stories for the Anthony and particularly the Edgar have been coming from AHMM and EQMM, as opposed to the anthologies ([city] NOIR and such) over the last several years, with some years trending the other way.

However, I doubt it will be long now before you're both in an issue of one or the other, or in the same original anthology...

I just saw this - congrats to her! You must be so proud.

Patti! I had no idea she was your daughter either! Oh my god. I read all her books last year and she's very quickly become one of my all-time favourite writers. You might be interested to know she's also one of the very few of my favourite writers who's books are on the shelves EVERYWHERE here in Melbourne, which seriously makes me smile everytime I browse the shelves. okay, gushing rant over.
