NOIR CON

So who's going? I am trying to work my nerve up.
Big is scary but so is small. I want to see my hometown again though. Maybe I can offer a tour of my teenage hangouts. Oh, right, I don't drive. I wonder if Vic's Steaks is still there.

We'll have to take the H and S buses and the subway. Or the train. I bet you're getting excited.

I'm afraid it won't be me. Would be fun though. Enjoy.

Patti - I will be going to help with the release of Damned Near Dead 2 since I have a story in there. I look forward to meeting you there.

I suspect I will cough up the money, particularly since I'm scheduled to host a traveller from another land...

I have every intention of being there as well.

I'm hoping to go. A friend said I can crash on their couch, which will help keep down travel costs.

I want to go so badly but it is too close to Bouchercon to fit with the work schedule and travel budget. Plus the idea of Philly in winter does not appeal to a California boy like me. (even thought the wife's family lives there)

I'll not be going. We are going to Bouchercon in San Francisco, however.

You don't drive? Goodness, I can't imagine! In California, non-drivers are practically handicapped.

I'm afraid our traveling days are coming to an end. We're up to our eye-balls in Elder Care so until that situation resolves itself, we'll be reading your lively trip reports.

Patti - I would so love to go these things more than I can. You're fortunate to be able to go...

You, too, Scott, Todd, Cullen and Chris. Should I get my nerve up.
Believe me, Rick, not driving in Detroit is very troublesome.
George-I had that for five years and may have it again. I'm on the move while I can be.
Charles-in LA sometime, I hope.
Margot-it would be lovely to meet you. Eric-that early in Philly wouldn't be bad-probably fifties.

If it was within driving distance, I would go. But alas...

Sometimes warmer than that in early November with our displacing seasons of late...and unless Vic's Steaks has become Vic's Sushi Bar off Rittenhouse Square, I fear you might be out of luck, there, Patti...but you can order in French at both Pat's and Geno's...

I worked at Vic's. He allowed me to do everything except make pizzas. And I mean everything--wash dishes, cook, waitress, take the money, clean the grill. Child labor laws not withstanding.

I won't be going, but I will be going to PulpFest in Columbus in July. Noir Con sounds like a good one.

pattinase (abbott) said...

Wow. Pulpfest. I wonder if we might drive there. Have to look into it.

Kieran Shea said...

NoirCon? In with relish. Lots of relish.

Patti: I'm still hesitating. Applied for a travel grant, but not sure if I'll get it. And I'm really not sure if I can make the trip without the possible grant - I'm not making much money these days. It would be great to meet you and all of these folks, especially Todd who ever so kindly promised I could sleep on his couch. :)

Patti, I'd drive you around town, except I don't drive, either.

There's two of us! I am thinking of taking a train to Jenkintown though.

Here’s your train schedule.

Thanks! Am I near Market East?

Peter Rozovsky said...

The convention hotel is near both Market East and Suburban Station, probably a little closer to Market East, a colossal Rizzo-era monstrosity that, however, encompasses the wonderful Reading Terminal Market.

Where I am immediately heading for a cheesesteak, raw oysters, funnel cake, etc. My favorite place for lunch. Can't wait.

Peter Rozovsky said...

The Noir Con convention site is near Jim's Steaks on South Street, where a group went for lunch one day. I can take you all to the Pen & Pencil Club, but let me warn you ahead of time: You'll be disappointed.

Because even the clubs journalists frequent are a dying breed?

Sustained only by the sorts of low-IQ late-night pirlas cigar-puffing blowhards to make a good visitor cry.
