Is it Just Me
or do you feel like you're standing on the deck of the Titanic and watching everything that isn't nailed down begin to slide off the edges?
And I'm not one of those objects nailed down.
Indicative of the effect this is having on me, I have banged my head on various impediments four times in the last week, sprained my ankle and bumped my knee. Are you feeling off-kilter too? Are your nails digging into what's no longer there?

I blame it on the shift in weather. This sudden cold snap is just wrong.
Take it easy, Patti. Find some place soft and warm to curl up with the entertainment of your choice.
And, of course, the mold in Michigan doesn't help.
Dig in, Patti. Dig in.
I call myself a radioactive daughter. If my parents could survive the Bomb and its aftermath, I figure that anything else pales in comparison.
Now that puts it in good perspective, Naomi.
Could it be because you're reading I AM LEGEND? :)
The end of civilization as we know it does tend to skew one's perceptions.
HA! I'm finished with that one but let's face it. Who among us reads happy stories.
Actually I tripped over my boxer dog, Lennon this morning and chipped a tooth.
Speaking of happy stories, as I related to my wife the gist of my second novel and I said "I really want my detective to go through the ringer," she sighed and lamented that we writers keep doing these kinds of things to our characters. To which I replied, "Yeah, and you keep reading them, too." Bring on the bad stuff (in books) and keep it far away in real life. Down here in Houston, it's rained for the first time since Ike visited us. Brings out the depression in all of us.
Ouch! I feel your pain.
I think the books depressing me most lately are not the crime fiction ones, but the lit stuff which all about death: Roth, Prose, Ford.
Patti, hope you're feeling better now. FWIW, I've seen so many Titanic analogies lately, and they're so apropo. Astrologically speaking, Mercury is in apparent retrograde motion until Oct. 15, so I'm hoping things will get better then. ;)
Linda
Today, I feel not quite so much like that. But an iceberg could hit any minute. We never know do we?
I have only read 2 books in the past 7 years... "The Diving Bell & The Butterfly" and the other I keep in my purse and consult from time to time, "100 Simple Secrets of Successful People."
Jannie,
found you via your Leonard Cohen tag on Blogger.
I wish they had "100 Simple Secrets of Relaxed People." I would give up success for being relaxed.
October 15th, huh? Okay, I can make that.
I think I must be the iceberg.
Today, while browsing in a bookshop for a book no one had heard of, a young lady busy talking on her mobile and, obviously, not looking where she was going bumped into me. The jolt did no damage to me but, it appears, that it was my fault that she dropped her mobile that had split into two when it hit the floor.
A Titanic day for her, then.
Patti, is your flash fiction contest still on? I hope so. I shared the info with my writing group.
I think it's the change of seasons and the imminence of BoucherCon. For me, it's working myself to death, and not catching up.
Jess, definitely. Not a contest though. Just a challenge. Anyone who writes one is in. Thanks for drumming up interest. Just tell anyone who writes one, to give me a heads up a few days before the 20th as to whether they're posing it on their own blog or on Powder Burn Flash.
TM-Work is the least of my problems.
Hope I see you there.
That's why they call it "fall."
And why I prefer Spring.
"Who among us reads happy stories?"
I do, once in awhile. Though not often in books, which contain dire conflicts to be resolved. Most have happy endings.
A cute movie I re-watched recently was "What a girl wants" with Colin Firth. That movie always makes me smile. So does "Doc Hollywood" which is a nice relaxing movie.
If you want out of the doldrums just take yourself out. Think positive. That always works for me.
