Virginia Beach was my first beach as a kid, as my folks weren't too interested in taking advantage of any of the more proximate New England beaches...I began body-surfing there, but the experience was rather more fun in Hawaii by our eventual relocation. The jerk quotient at VA Beach was a bit higher, alas, than at most Oahu beaches, but it was an opportunity for my mother to have an annual reunion with her old friend Connie, though I didn't mix that well with her daughter or her particularly obnoxious son, a few years younger than me.
